Back in February, Oscar winner Tom Hanks was confirmed to join the film adaptation of the novel "Lincoln in the Bardo" as the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Today, foreign media outlet Deadline has revealed three additional cast members: Willem Dafoe, Jonathan Bailey, and Peter Dinklage.

The film is based on author George Saunders' debut novel, "Lincoln in the Bardo," published in 2017. This fictional story recounts how Lincoln's young son, Willie Lincoln, who died prematurely from typhoid, encounters three ghosts in the cemetery who urge him not to linger in the mortal realm. However, just as Willie decides to let go of his earthly attachments, his father arrives at the cemetery to mourn, changing his son's original intentions.

Dafoe, Bailey, and Dinklage will portray these three ghosts. Dafoe plays Everly, a reverend who, in life, firmly believed he would ascend to heaven but did not. Bailey takes on the role of Roger, a young gay man who commits suicide after a failed romance and immediately regrets it. Dinklage portrays Hans, a ghost determined to reunite with his young wife. These actors will primarily provide voice work, as their characters will be presented through stop-motion animation. Hanks, however, will appear in live-action as Lincoln.

The film is directed by Duke Johnson, co-director of "Anomalisa," with Saunders himself penning the screenplay. Production is slated to begin in London, UK.
