At the recent Tokyo Toy Show 2026, Bandai Namco showcased various new prototypes, including Gunpla model kits, completed figures, and candy toys, all stemming from the latest Gundam TV anime, "Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO".
The new anime, "Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO", is part of the next-generation Gundam initiative, "RG PROJECT". It shares a universe with the new game "Gundam: Anomaly's Path", set to release in 2027, with the anime's story taking place approximately 100 years prior to the game's events. Humanity experienced unprecedented prosperity and expanded its dominion across the entire solar system after acquiring the "Three Great Blessings"—gravity control, faster-than-light communication, and ideational materialization technology—from an unknown object that arrived from outside the solar system. However, this unknown object suddenly went berserk, activating a self-replication system and spawning highly aggressive silicon-based lifeforms, leading humanity to witness an "Apocalypse" within this uncharted ecosystem.
After three months of intense battles, with the front lines stalemated in satellite orbit, humanity was forced to abandon Earth, relocating to the Moon and space colonies. This year was recorded as A.A. (After Apocalypse) Year 1. In A.A. 45, with the silicon-based lifeform Apocalypse having become a constant threat, a young boy named Azumi Rei (voiced by Takeo Otsuka) awakens on the lunar surface. A war orphan who lost his parents to the Apocalypse's attacks, he is destined to become the pilot of the cutting-edge experimental unit against the Apocalypse, the "Gundam ZERO".
The exhibition primarily focused on the protagonist mobile suit, "XARX-0 Gundam ZERO", featuring a variety of new products across lines such as "METAL ROBOT SPIRITS", "GUNDAM UNIVERSE", "FW GUNDAM CONVERGE", "GUNDAM CROSS", and "GUNDAM MIXIMIZE". For Gunpla, in addition to the "HG 1/144 Gundam ZERO", Bandai also showcased the protagonist mobile suit from "Gundam: Anomaly's Path", the "HG 1/144 Spiral Gundam Standard Edition / Game Bundle Limited Edition".
