Japanese toy company TAKARA TOMY has announced an exciting collaboration with the beloved "Dragon Quest" series, bringing two new versions of its classic party game, "Pop-Up Pirate." Fans can look forward to the "Lively Sound♪ Slime Pop-Up Pirate" and "Lively Sound♪ Metal Slime Pop-Up Pirate" editions. Both are priced at 3,850 JPY and are slated for release in Japan on October 24, 2026.
Slimes are one of the most iconic monsters in the "Dragon Quest" series; their round, blue bodies and cheerful smiles have long been a symbol of the franchise. Metal Slimes, on the other hand, are infamous for their incredibly high defense, massive experience point rewards, and their tendency to flee from battle at a moment's notice. Players often have to seize fleeting opportunities to land a "Critical Hit" to successfully defeat them.
For these special editions, the traditional pirate figure in the barrel has been replaced with either a Slime or Metal Slime character. Even the small swords inserted into the barrel have been redesigned to resemble the legendary "Sword of Roto" from the "Dragon Quest" series. Each set includes 16 Swords of Roto, with four swords in each of four different colors. Players take turns inserting the swords into the slots around the barrel, and each insertion triggers a random sound effect.
Both versions feature over 10 unique sound effects. The standard Slime edition includes audio cues like spell casting and Slime attacks missing their target. The Metal Slime version adds unique sounds such as the iconic "Metal Slime fled!" and attack misses. When the figure successfully pops out of the barrel, a triumphant "Critical Hit" sound effect plays, symbolizing the defeat of a formidable foe. According to the official game rules, the player who makes the Slime figure pop out is declared the winner.
Designed for 1 to multiple players, these games are crafted in a compact size for easy portability and display. Whether you choose the regular Slime that endures constant attacks or the Metal Slime that might flee at any moment, to become the ultimate hero, you'll need to find that critical slot hidden within the barrel!
