TAMASHII NATIONS, Bandai Spirits' collectibles division, has announced the latest addition to its classic die-cast toy line, "Chogokin," with the upcoming release of "Mechagodzilla (Noriyoshi Ohrai Poster Ver.)" from the tokusatsu film "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla," slated for January 2027.
This particular Mechagodzilla design originates from the iconic "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" movie poster, illustrated by the late Japanese artist Noriyoshi Ohrai. Conceptualized by designer Shinji Nishikawa during the film's script development, this powerful iteration, despite not appearing in the final movie due to time and technical constraints, earned significant praise from fans for its heavy armament and imposing presence. In 2017, the Chogokin series collaborated with Shinji Nishikawa to produce the highly popular "Chogokin Tamashii MIX Mechagodzilla (Noriyoshi Ohrai Poster Ver.)," which incorporated a transformation and combination gimmick based on his original design.
The new "Chogokin Mechagodzilla (Noriyoshi Ohrai Poster Ver.)" retains all the design elements of the 2017 Tamashii MIX release. However, it features a refreshed paint scheme, replacing the original matte silver, which closely resembled the suit's texture, with a new cool-toned, glossy blue-silver finish. Designer Shinji Nishikawa meticulously supervised the entire sculpt, bringing to life the design that couldn't be realized on screen back then. Standing approximately 17 cm tall, the figure is crafted from ABS and die-cast parts, showcasing highly detailed, angular armor and formidable weaponry.
Just like the 2017 release, this version also incorporates Shinji Nishikawa's original transformation and combination gimmick designed for the toy. Mechagodzilla is formed by the union of three G-Force fighter jets: "Garuda," "Gandara," and "Naga." Each individual machine is intricately detailed with massive wings, twin beam cannons, magnesium ray cannons, intricate piping, and treads, ensuring they look impressive even when displayed separately.
