Gashapon Unveils Stylish Monchhichi Monotone Mascot Capsule Toys!

Bandai's Gashapon division is set to release a brand-new series of capsule toys featuring the beloved character Monchhichi. Titled "Monchhichi Monotone Mascot," these charming collectibles will retail for 300 JPY per turn and are slated for a late January 2027 release!

Monchhichi, the iconic plush toy line, was first introduced by Japan's Sekiguchi Co., Ltd. in 1974. Its name is a playful blend of the French word "Mon" (my) and the Japanese onomatopoeia "Chhichi," which mimics the sound of a pacifier. While often mistaken for a monkey due to its appearance and name, Monchhichi is officially described as a benevolent spirit dedicated to spreading love and happiness. The character has recently experienced a massive surge in popularity, thanks in part to K-pop idols like BLACKPINK's Lisa and IVE's Jang Won-young, who have been spotted sporting Monchhichi charms as personal accessories.

The new "Monchhichi Monotone Mascot" collection draws inspiration from a highly popular product released around 2006, re-imagining Monchhichi in a chic black and white aesthetic. This stylish lineup includes five adorable designs: Monchhichi-kun, Monchhichi-kun (BLACK×WHITE), Monchhichi-chan (WHITE), and two Gashapon original characters, Baby Monchhichi and Chimutan. Each charm measures approximately 2.9 to 3.8 cm, meticulously capturing Monchhichi's endearing expressions and the signature fluffy texture of their heads and bodies. With their distinctive monochrome palette, these charms are perfect for accessorizing your everyday bag and are guaranteed to be a conversation starter. Monchhichi fans won't want to miss out on this fashionable revival!
