In an exclusive report, Deadline recently revealed that Paramount Animation and streaming giant Netflix have decided to terminate their partnership, meaning Paramount Animation's future projects will no longer be distributed by the streamer. The collaboration between the two companies began in 2023, during which Netflix released "Spellbound" and "Swapped." One film, "Ray Gunn," remains under their current contract and is scheduled to premiere on December 18.

Another foreign media outlet, Vulture, claimed in a lengthy feature report detailing Paramount Animation CEO David Ellison's work that Netflix decided to prematurely end the partnership due to the poor viewership performance of "Spellbound." However, Netflix has denied this claim through a spokesperson. Regardless of "Spellbound," the second film, "Swapped," achieved impressive viewership, attracting as many as 38 million views in its first week of availability. "Spellbound" should not have been the sole cause for the partnership's termination.

The news of the partnership's termination also unexpectedly brought to light a long-in-the-works Paramount Animation film, "Cosmic Motors." The project is co-directed by John Lasseter, head of Paramount Animation and one of Pixar's founding members, alongside Luis del Carmen. This marks Lasseter's first directorial effort in 15 years and will be Paramount Animation's first theatrical release after its split from Netflix.

The film is an adaptation of a concept art book of the same name, published in 2007. The fictional world built within this art book primarily revolves around a hypothetical automotive manufacturer, abbreviated as CoMo, headquartered in the galaxy. The art book features nine spacecraft, capsules, race cars, war machines, and colossal trains, with all component details presented in a photorealistic style.
