The highly anticipated HBO series reboot of "Harry Potter" is set to premiere this Christmas, promising fans a more expansive adaptation designed to faithfully bring the novels' intricate details and plot to the screen. While the series aims for high fidelity, any adaptation will inevitably introduce its own interpretations. Johnny Flynn, who plays Lucius Malfoy, recently revealed some notable modifications to his character's background.

In a new interview with Radio Times, Flynn shared that he has infused his portrayal of Lucius with additional backstory. "He was one of those kids bullied in his school, and he's now turned into the bully, so he doesn't know another way," Flynn explained. "That's how I want to play him, because I know those people quite well. On the one hand, they were the people that bullied me; they were the abusers. But at some point, they were the abused. So, nobody's outright good or bad in the world."
