After a long absence from Hollywood, the "Silent Hill" franchise finally returned to theaters earlier this year with "Return to Silent Hill," its first new movie in 14 years. Unfortunately, the film was met with largely negative reviews and weak ticket sales, grossing $48 million worldwide against a reported $23 million production budget. The franchise still failed to escape the shadow of its previous big-screen misfire, "Silent Hill: Revelation."

Despite those back-to-back setbacks, the filmmakers apparently are not ready to abandon the franchise. According to an exclusive report from horror outlet Dread Central, another "Silent Hill" movie is already taking shape. The plan is reportedly to reboot the film series from the ground up, steer it in a bold new direction and deliver an adaptation that finally lives up to the reputation of the original games. Dread Central did not reveal what that new approach might involve, but "Silent Hill" may not be finished on the big screen just yet—and more news could arrive soon.
