To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Comics has launched its "PIXAR 40TH ANNIVERSARY VARIANT COVERS" collection, enlisting an all-star lineup of artists to reimagine iconic Marvel covers with beloved Pixar characters. The 12-cover series spans titles including "Fantastic Four," "Iron Man," "Amazing Spider-Man," and "Avengers: Armageddon." Most issues carry a cover price of $4.99, while "Fantastic Four" #15 is priced at $5.99. The collection has been rolling out in stages since July 2026.
Rather than sending Marvel superheroes into Pixar’s worlds, these covers cast Pixar favorites in instantly recognizable Marvel compositions. The Incredibles take over "Fantastic Four" #13, recreating the cover of "Fantastic Four" (1961) #159, while WALL-E and EVE suit up for "Iron Man" #7 in a tribute to "Iron Man" (1998) #76.
Nearly every cover features a cast movie fans will recognize at a glance. "Inside Out" headlines "Avengers: Armageddon" #2, placing Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear into the classic composition from "Avengers" #9. "Ratatouille" sends Remy onto "Infernal Hulk" #9 for a recreation of the landmark "The Incredible Hulk" #1 cover from 1962. Ryan Stegman’s variant for "Amazing Spider-Man" #34 features characters from "Up" in a tribute to Spider-Man’s first appearance in "Amazing Fantasy" #15.
"A Bug’s Life" also joins the celebration on "Fantastic Four" #15, recreating the cover of "Fantastic Four" #49. Phil Noto brings Merida from "Brave" to "Avengers: Armageddon" #3 in an homage to 2016’s "Hawkeye" #1. "Toy Story 5" gets in on the action as well, with Paco Medina illustrating a "Doomquest" #4 variant that recreates the classic composition from "Fantastic Four" #39.
The later releases bring even more Pixar classics into the Marvel Comics universe. Greg Land illustrates the "Monsters, Inc."-themed Pixar 40th anniversary variant for "Fantastic Four" #16, while Germán Peralta brings "Cars" to "Avengers: Armageddon" #4, featuring familiar faces including Lightning McQueen, Mater, and Sally.
Stephen Segovia’s "X-Men" #37 features a wraparound cover packed with characters from "Toy Story," "Monsters, Inc.," "WALL-E," "Ratatouille," and more, creating a massive ensemble tribute to Pixar’s 40-year legacy. Benjamin Su’s variant for "Thor" #801 spotlights "Coco," bringing the movie’s colorful Land of the Dead cast to a Marvel Comics cover.
