After more than three decades of on-and-off development at Amblin Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures, a third "Gremlins" movie finally gained momentum last year and secured a November 19, 2027 release date. Now, however, the film will no longer make that window. Warner Bros. has unexpectedly announced that "Gremlins 3" has been pushed to October 6, 2028, delaying it by nearly a full year. The studio did not offer a reason for the move, but after waiting more than three decades, fans can probably hold out for one more year.

Chris Columbus, who wrote the original "Gremlins" and directed the first two "Harry Potter" films, is taking the helm of "Gremlins 3." He also co-wrote the screenplay with "Final Destination Bloodlines" directing duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein. Steven Spielberg, who produced the first two movies, will also be involved alongside Columbus, his producer daughter Eleanor Columbus, and Columbus himself.
