Long-running Japanese model maker VOLKS is expanding its premium, large-scale Absolute Zone resin figure line with a new Evangelion release: the Mari Makinami Illustrious 1/4 scale color resin kit. Priced at 115,000 yen, advance preorders will open at HOBBY ROUND 35 in Hall F of the TRC Tokyo Ryutsu Center Second Exhibition Hall on November 7, 2026. Online preorders begin November 21, with delivery scheduled for spring 2027.
Introduced in the Evangelion film series, Mari Makinami Illustrious has piloted Evangelion Provisional Unit-05, Evangelion Unit-02, and Evangelion Unit-08. Although the Curse of Eva preserves her youthful appearance, she was actually a university contemporary of Shinji Ikari's parents. By the end of the series, she helps Shinji leave his despair behind, and the two emerge as a couple in the real world.
The Absolute Zone Mari Makinami Illustrious measures approximately 31.3 inches tall, 12.2 inches wide, and 15 inches deep. Cast in four colors of resin, the 1/4 scale composition was designed by Zoukei-mura sculptors around the spatial beauty of traditional Japanese ikebana. Mari has been reimagined with a semi-realistic aesthetic, complete with crystal-style eyes that give her gaze remarkable depth. The finely sculpted body captures her soft, slender curves alongside every wrinkle in her plugsuit, while skin-tone resin and subtle pink airbrushing create a naturally flushed complexion. A glossy finish on the form-fitting suit further emphasizes her rounded bust and defined abdominal muscles.
Her flowing hair combines translucent resin with brown paintwork for a light, almost crystalline appearance. The armor on her arms and legs uses layered metallic and pearlescent finishes to create added depth and color variation. No detail has been overlooked on the sniper rifle, from the weapon's body and scope to the strap wrapped around its stock. The rubble-covered display base also features a sculpted, open-mouthed head of Evangelion Unit-08γ, providing the perfect backdrop for Mari's commanding presence.
