Kaiyodo has unveiled the latest release in its popular articulated figure line, "Amazing Yamaguchi," based on Go Nagai’s classic "Mazinger Z." The new "Great Mazinger New Color Ver." is scheduled to go on sale at Kaiyodo retail stores beginning October 3, 2026.
After Koji Kabuto and "Mazinger Z" survived countless battles and finally defeated the Underground Empire led by the evil genius Dr. Hell, an even greater threat emerged from the shadows: the Mycenae Empire, which was preparing to invade the surface world. To counter the new enemy, Koji’s father, Kenzo Kabuto, used Mazinger Z as the foundation for the more powerful Great Mazinger. Piloted by sequel protagonist Tetsuya Tsurugi, Great Mazinger took over the defense of Earth while Koji studied abroad, using its superior capabilities to battle the Mycenae Empire’s army of Battle Beasts.
The "Amazing Yamaguchi Great Mazinger New Color Ver." is based on the previously released standard-color edition, replacing its original silver, black, and metallic blue finish with a glossy black-and-white color scheme inspired by Great Mazinger’s appearance in the "Mazinkaiser" OVA. Sculptor Katsuhisa Yamaguchi stays true to the anime design while giving the robot clean, sharply defined armor and an impressively massive build.
The figure comes loaded with weapons and effect parts for recreating Great Mazinger’s signature attacks, including the finger-fired Thunder Break, a pair of razor-sharp Mazinger Blades, two Drill Pressure Punches, the chest-mounted Great Boomerang, and the Scramble Dash flight unit. Special handshake parts for use with Mazinger Z are also included, allowing collectors to recreate the memorable handoff between the two robots from the final episode of "Mazinger Z."
