threezero MDLX Transformers Hot Rod (1986 Movie Edition) Figure Celebrates the Animated Classic

Hong Kong-based collectible manufacturer threezero is celebrating the 40th anniversary of "The Transformers: The Movie" with more additions to its compact MDLX articulated figure line. Following Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Megatron, the company has revealed two more movie-themed releases. Up next is the Hot Rod (1986 Movie Edition) articulated figure, priced at 14,350 yen and scheduled to ship in Q4 2026!

Introduced in 1986’s "The Transformers: The Movie," Hot Rod is a young Autobot warrior with an upbeat personality, an impulsive streak, and a thirst for adventure. His alternate mode is a sleek red sports car built for speed. Although his inexperience leads to costly mistakes on the battlefield, his courage and strong sense of justice ultimately earn him recognition from the Matrix of Leadership. At a critical moment, he transforms into the Autobots’ next leader, Rodimus Prime.

Standing approximately 7 inches tall, Hot Rod (1986 Movie Edition) reuses the redesigned sculpt from the 2023 Rodimus Prime figure, originally created by threezero Art Director Kelvin Sau. The new release gives that highly detailed mechanical design a movie-inspired color scheme while retaining threezero’s signature layered armor and intricate machinery.

The figure features an orange main body accented with magenta on the shoulders and waist. A bright yellow flame emblem across the chest and the character’s signature rear spoiler complete Hot Rod’s fiery pre-Rodimus Prime appearance. Accessories include four pairs of interchangeable hands, a Laser Blaster, and a Blaster Rifle. The two weapons can also combine to form a Photon Eliminator Rifle. Supported by a die-cast internal frame and 46 points of articulation, the figure can hold a wide range of dynamic poses with impressive stability.
