Chinese model kit manufacturer DLK HOBBY has unveiled its original 1/100-scale ZAW-S02 Kingfisher model kit. Based on the earlier ZAW-S01 Ikaruga, the machine has been reworked into a high-mobility configuration optimized for combat within planetary atmospheres. Along with a fully detailed inner frame, its massive backpack can detach and transform into an independent support craft. The completed model stands approximately 20cm tall and is scheduled for release in October 2027 with a suggested retail price of 8,525 yen, including tax.
The Kingfisher’s design makes its aerial-combat role immediately clear. Its limbs and shoulder armor feature long, razor-sharp lines, while massive wing-like equipment spreads out from the backpack. Beneath the outer armor is a complete mechanical structure built around a multilayered frame and multi-jointed articulation system, allowing the finished model to pull off everything from grounded stances and rifle poses to dynamic midair combat displays.
The backpack can be mounted directly onto the rear of the machine or removed as a complete unit and transformed into a separate support craft, creating a two-unit display alongside the Kingfisher itself. The kit also includes the XVC-08[P] Improved Ragnarok Support Unit, a high-energy beam rifle, a long-range rifle, and a shield, covering everything from long-distance firing poses to standard rifle-based combat. A complete set of aerial floating cannons and piercing blades can also be repositioned around the machine to suit different poses. Between its extensive weapon loadout and transforming backpack support craft, the completed Kingfisher offers far more than a static standing display, giving builders plenty of options for creating specialized aerial-combat configurations.
