During its September 26 livestream, "Megalo Maria × SOUSAISHOJOTEIEN: Pre-Hobby Show Special Talk Live 2026", Japanese model maker Kotobukiya revealed full details and an extensive behind-the-scenes discussion for the latest release from Megalo Maria, the SANA AKABISHI [DRESS CODE] plastic model kit. Preorders are scheduled to open October 6, ahead of its March 2027 release!
The road to SANA AKABISHI [DRESS CODE] was anything but straightforward. The character began as a mascot created by YUKI, the original producer of HEXA GEAR, based on the story's artificial intelligence SANAT. Sporting brown hair, a red dress, and a red diamond-shaped hair clip, she regularly appeared on the official blog and social media to introduce new products and events. She even received a plastic model kit of her own. Later, SOUSAISHOJOTEIEN introduced Emma Koishikawa, a character based on Sana Akabishi. For her Megalo Maria appearance as a HEXA GEAR crossover character, Sana's long hair was cut short to distinguish her silhouette from Emma's. Her hair was also changed to silver-white, allowing the Queen Gem headpiece to stand out more prominently. Naoyuki Kameyama then designed a gothic military uniform in the same style as Maria Kagaribi's, finally bringing the "Crimson Queen", SANA AKABISHI [DRESS CODE], to life!
Built to the same specifications as Maria Kagaribi [DRESS CODE], SANA AKABISHI [DRESS CODE] features an impressive 88 points of articulation throughout her body. The kit carries over the movable eyes and double-sided printing on the flexible skirt, now extended into a calf-length design. The skirt remains removable, allowing the highly articulated hip structure of the Maria Swing system to deliver its full range of motion. Two interchangeable face plates with movable eyes are included—a stern expression and a smile—along with three front hair options: one for wearing the cap, one with the hair ornament, and one without it.
Her arsenal includes four Phlegethon smoothbore muskets, each fitted with a clear red blade along the barrel. They can be held in her hands or mounted to her back using the rear connector and mechanical arms. The connection system can support up to eight weapons!
Two expansion weapon sets will also launch alongside the kit: Criminal Buster and Phlegethon. Criminal Buster is a massive handheld demolition cannon, while the Phlegethon set adds another four smoothbore muskets and the necessary connector parts. Combining both sets with SANA AKABISHI [DRESS CODE] recreates her extravagant "Annihilation Mode", spreading the guns like wings as she buries every trace of evil beneath a storm of fire!
