TAKARA TOMY has teased the upcoming “Transformers: Kiss Players 20th Anniversary Mini-Cassette Set” through the official Transformers account. The first image offers partial glimpses of three characters decked out in pink and white, orange and yellow, and white and blue. Preorders are set to open on October 2, 2026. For casual collectors, it marks the return of three Mini-Cassette Transformers. For longtime fans, it feels more like an official acknowledgment that yes, “Kiss Players” still counts—and it is somehow already turning 20.
Launched in 2006, “Transformers: Kiss Players” (トランスフォーマー キスぷれ) was an original Japanese multimedia project spanning toys, radio dramas, and manga. Its defining gimmick allowed human girls to merge with Transformers and power them up through a kiss, while the accompanying products paired transforming figures with PVC girl figures in the same box. The collision of moe-style packaging with an unusually dark, grotesque storyline still makes plenty of fans pause for a second whenever the name comes up—usually followed by a knowing grin. It has long been jokingly labeled the “dark history” of the Transformers franchise, yet its placement within a crucial period of the Japanese Generation 1 continuity makes it rather difficult to ignore completely.
This particular trio comes from the later and considerably more restrained “Kiss Players Position” era. Rosanna, Sundor, and Glit were Mini-Cassette Transformers created for the program before joining three human girls to form an idol group promoting friendship between humans and Transformers. The characters also received an e-HOBBY SHOP-exclusive three-pack. Rather than bringing the original girl-and-Transformer kissing gimmick back to collectors’ shelves, reuniting three characters that can slot neatly into an existing Mini-Cassette collection is a much easier sell—and considerably less awkward to explain when displayed in a cabinet.
The teaser does not identify the characters by name, but the pink-and-white humanoid on the left, orange-and-yellow bird at the upper right, and white-and-blue feline at the lower right strongly resemble KP Rosanna, KP Sundor, and KP Glit from the 2026 “Jem and the Holograms” crossover set. The Japanese release will presumably reuse those updated molds with some adjustments to the color schemes. The international set bundled all three with Autobot Blaster, while this Japanese edition packages the trio separately—a far more convenient option for collectors who only want to complete the “Kiss Players” Mini-Cassette lineup. Final deco, accessories, pricing, and the release date will not be confirmed until the full reveal on October 2.
