The original 2016 thriller "Don't Breathe" became a surprise box-office smash, grossing $157 million worldwide against a production budget of less than $10 million. Sony Pictures followed up with a sequel five years later, but the response was far more muted. "Don't Breathe 2" earned just $53.8 million globally and failed to match the original’s reception among audiences. Still, that apparently hasn’t stopped Sony from pursuing another installment.

Fede Álvarez, who directed the first "Don't Breathe" and co-wrote the sequel, recently attended a 10th-anniversary screening of the original at Beyond Fest. During the accompanying Q&A, Álvarez revealed that he has begun writing the third film. Stephen Lang is also confirmed to return as blind military veteran Norman, with Jane Levy reprising her role as the first movie’s protagonist, Rocky.
Levy did not appear in the 2021 sequel, but Álvarez clearly intends to continue Rocky’s story. For now, however, the filmmaker is keeping quiet about where the character’s journey will go next.
