Good Smile Company and Max Factory have revealed the latest entry in their PLAMATEA character model kit series: the Rebuild of Evangelion-themed “PLAMATEA Mari Makinami Illustrious.” Priced at ¥8,700, the kit is scheduled for release in May 2027.
British-born Mari Makinami Illustrious is a qualified Eva pilot assigned to NERV’s European branch. Unlike the other pilots, she is a cheerful thrill-seeker who genuinely enjoys combat, maintaining her upbeat, easygoing attitude even in the heat of battle—and often punctuating her sentences with a playful “nya.” The bespectacled pilot quickly became a fan favorite. In "Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo," Mari joins WILLE, the anti-NERV organization led by Misato Katsuragi, and pilots Evangelion Unit-08 alongside Asuka Shikinami Langley and her Evangelion Production Model-02'γ.
Standing approximately 6.9 inches tall, “PLAMATEA Mari Makinami Illustrious” uses color-separated runners, pre-painted parts, and decals to closely recreate Mari’s on-screen appearance with straightforward assembly. The kit includes a pre-painted smiling face, plus smiling, shouting, and glaring faces that can be customized with eye decals to adjust the direction of her gaze. Two styles of glasses are also included: one with sculpted lenses and a frames-only version.
The model features articulated joints throughout and comes with several sets of interchangeable hands, including hand parts designed to hold the Evangelion-use Anti-Gigantes Rifle included with the separately sold MODEROID Evangelion Production Model Custom Type-08α. Its broad range of articulation supports a wide variety of dynamic poses.
