Deadline reports exclusively that Dan Trachtenberg, the director who helped revitalize the "Predator" franchise in recent years, has been tapped to reinvent another classic property from Disney's library.
According to Deadline, Trachtenberg will direct a new "Sleeping Beauty" movie for Disney. He developed the story with "The Walking Dead: World Beyond" co-writer Rayna McClendon, while "Next Time on Lonny" creators Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf are writing the screenplay.

The report stresses that this version of "Sleeping Beauty" is unrelated to the live-action "Maleficent" franchise starring Angelina Jolie and will offer a completely different take. Jolie has previously confirmed, however, that "Maleficent 3" remains in development.
In November 2025, entertainment insider Daniel Richtman also claimed on his Patreon page that Disney was developing a new "Sleeping Beauty" movie titled "Aurora." He reported that the story would primarily be set in Mexico, strongly suggesting that Aurora herself would be reimagined as Latina. The two projects may well be one and the same.
