Anne Hathaway had planned to take on the spicy-wing challenge on Sean Evans' "Hot Ones" while promoting her new thriller "Verity," but her pregnancy forced her to put the idea on hold. She recently revealed that her doctor advised against the appearance over concerns that it could trigger early labor.
Based on Colleen Hoover's novel of the same name, the film stars Anne Hathaway as bestselling author Verity Crawford. Gayle King, "Call Her Daddy" host Alex Cooper and Sean Evans appear as themselves in interview sequences designed to establish the character's celebrity status.
Speaking on "Talk of the Townsends", Hathaway revealed that she ate the first three wings for real while filming the "Hot Ones" sequence before switching to prop wings.
Hathaway said she had expected to complete the full "Hot Ones" challenge during the movie's press tour because it seemed like the perfect promotional tie-in. After becoming pregnant, however, her doctor warned that the stunt could potentially send her into early labor. She has yet to complete the entire gauntlet and is not sure when she will finally attempt it, though she suggested next year as a possibility.
Asked whether she should have completed her first challenge while filming, Hathaway said the team spent considerable time debating the idea because she had never attempted the full 10-wing gauntlet before.
She compared the experience to an actor having their first-ever kiss while filming a romantic scene, explaining that such a physical experience should happen for real rather than for the first time while playing a character on camera.
