Kenelephant’s FROZEN MAMMOTH Turns a Permafrost Discovery Into Supermarket Freezer Food

Japanese miniature and capsule toy brand Kenelephant has unveiled FROZEN MAMMOTH, the 18th release in its Passion PRODUCT series. The collection shrinks Gendai Bijutsu Nitouhei’s permafrost-inspired “bad art” piece into a set of miniature charms, complete with food trays and packaging designed to look like something pulled straight from a supermarket freezer. The blind-box edition is priced at 550 yen per piece, while the capsule toy version costs 500 yen per pull. Both are scheduled for release in January 2027.

Gendai Bijutsu Nitouhei is an art duo consisting of Shane Kagotani and Katsuhito Fujiwara. The pair calls its creations “bad art,” injecting contemporary art with offbeat ideas guaranteed to raise a smile. Frozen Mammoth takes the discovery of a mammoth preserved in permafrost to its most literal—and ridiculous—conclusion by packaging the animal as actual frozen food. The collection features four designs: “Adult” and “Calf”, based on the original adult and juvenile mammoths, plus the new “Family Pack” and “Vacuum-Sealed Gift Pack”. One crams multiple mammoths into a bulk-size supermarket tray, while the other presents its prehistoric contents as an oddly convincing premium gift. What begins as an archaeological discovery ends in the frozen-food aisle, making it look as though mammoths have genuinely become the supermarket’s latest packaged delicacy.
