After years of plans to bring the "Game of Thrones" franchise to the big screen, reports emerged in March that "House of Cards" creator Beau Willimon had been tapped to write its first feature film, "Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest." Warner Bros. Pictures has now officially announced that Owen Harris, who worked on the first season of the "Game of Thrones" spinoff "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," will direct the movie, which is set to hit theaters on June 1, 2029.

The film will center on King Aegon I Targaryen and chronicle his brutal, bloody campaign to establish House Targaryen and conquer six of the Seven Kingdoms roughly 300 years before the events of the "Game of Thrones" premiere.

Also joining the release calendar is "Anything But Ghosts," the next film from "Obsession" director Curry Barker. The movie will open in theaters on May 7, 2027.

Barker and his longtime creative partner Cooper Tomlinson co-wrote the film and will also star. The cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul and Violet McGraw.

Set in the same universe as "Obsession," "Anything But Ghosts" will reference the murders featured in Barker's breakout film. The story follows Barker and Tomlinson as phony paranormal investigators who scam grieving families by staging supernatural activity, typically targeting older women and single fathers. Their con runs smoothly until they encounter a very real—and extremely dangerous—dark force.
