Marvel Comics’ "Amazing Spider-Man" has officially reached its landmark 1,000th issue, bringing together an all-star lineup of creators from across the series’ history. But one variant cover is generating particular buzz online for its unmistakable tribute to Monkey D. Luffy, the hero of "One Piece."

Created by Mico Suayan as a New York Comic Con exclusive, the "Amazing Spider-Man" #1000 variant features an unmasked Spider-Man crouching low with both hands braced against his legs. The pose closely recreates Luffy’s iconic stance when activating Gear 2, and fans of both Marvel and "One Piece" quickly caught the reference.

To celebrate the historic milestone, Marvel rolled out an enormous selection of alternate covers for "Amazing Spider-Man" #1000. The lineup includes work by John Romita Jr., Pepe Larraz, Alex Ross, Mark Bagley, J. Scott Campbell and Steve Ditko, along with a collaborative variant by Peach Momoko and Frank Miller. Other editions include a wraparound cover honoring the 1967 "Spider-Man" animated series, a Marvel Studios variant for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and Todd Nauck’s four-part connecting cover.

The main story is written by Joe Kelly with art by Pepe Larraz. Spider-Man faces Ravage, his most frightening new villain in decades, while learning that Aunt May has been rushed to the hospital. The oversized issue also features anniversary stories from creators including Noah Hawley, Frank Miller, Dan Slott and Brian Michael Bendis.
"Amazing Spider-Man" #1000 was released on September 30, 2026.
