Mike Flanagan, the modern horror maestro behind "The Haunting of Hill House," is bringing his new series adaptation of "Carrie" to Prime Video on October 7, with all eight episodes arriving at once. But the first season may not tell the whole story. In a new interview with Collider, Flanagan revealed that his ideal plan would take the series through Season 3.

Flanagan said that, in his ideal scenario, three seasons would be the perfect length. As he sees it, "Carrie" has a compelling three-act story and could ultimately function as a trilogy. That revelation may surprise viewers and fans of the original novel. Stephen King's book is a single, relatively slim volume, making it difficult to imagine how the story could stretch across three seasons. For now, Flanagan has not offered any further explanation.

This version of "Carrie" is being billed as a highly faithful adaptation of Stephen King's novel, incorporating the book's outside investigative perspectives. Those elements include emergency calls made on the night of the prom massacre, recorded witness testimony, subsequent police reports and scientific research attempting to explain Carrie White's telekinetic powers. Beginning with Episode 2, each installment will also open with a standalone story about a woman from another place and time discovering and coming to terms with abilities similar to Carrie's, creating a thematic parallel to her journey.
