A Legend Among Ultramen! S.H.Figuarts Ultraman Saga

Ultraman Saga Ultraman Saga

Ultraman Saga is born when three very different Ultra Warriors unite to save Earth: Ultraman Zero, the Land of Light's mightiest warrior; Ultraman Cosmos, the Hero of Compassion; and Ultraman Dyna, the legendary hero. Created to battle Hyper Zetton, Saga has no clearly defined body markings. Instead, his head features fang-like ornaments, while his entire body radiates a mysterious aura of light. His power allows him to match or even surpass Hyper Zetton, and he can unleash a wide range of devastating energy attacks. Light also shines through the fissure-like sections running across his body. During the final battle, Saga joins forces with Earth's defense team to defeat Hyper Zetton and Alien Bat, restoring peace to the Earth of the Future Earth World.

The character was originally conceived as a fusion of Ultraman Zero and Ultraman Dyna, but the plan was later revised into the design seen today. Although Saga is a fusion warrior, the creative team wanted him to feel mysterious, envisioning him as a “shining crystal” and a physical manifestation of light. His body and overall silhouette were also intentionally designed with an asymmetrical look. Director Koichi Sakamoto hoped to feature Ultraman Saga in “ULTRAMAN GINGA S THE MOVIE: SHOWDOWN! THE 10 ULTRA WARRIORS!,” but the idea never made it into the finished film.

The figure stands approximately 150 mm tall. Both the paint application and overall finish are solid, while the eyes use translucent parts. The jewel-like sculpt adds plenty of visual appeal, and the figure does not look overly plasticky, though the neck appears slightly too long from certain angles. Quality control passes muster, with nearly every aspect performing above average. As expected from S.H.Figuarts, the articulation is respectable, and the joints have a good balance of firmness and flexibility. However, the character's unusual design limits the overall range of motion to roughly average levels. Accessories include four types of interchangeable hands for each side, a Saga Cutter effect part, a Saga Plasma effect part, and a support arm for displaying the Saga Plasma. The play value is fairly standard, but the set can still recreate Saga's classic poses and attacks from the film with ease.

I've always had a soft spot for ultimate forms! As one of the so-called Four Mysterious Ultras, Saga was one figure I simply had to spend the money on. Ultraman Saga fans should not miss it!
