This is my second build of OTAKA KOUBOU’s Godzilla (2016), planned around the client’s vision for the final display. I replaced the kit’s original tail support with a metal brace for greater stability and a cleaner presentation. The display combines traditional clay sculpting with a 3D-printed movie logo, while the original tissue-themed tail support was extended and refined to create a more cohesive design. I also produced a 25 cm-tall 3D-printed OTAKA KOUBOU logo sign, adding even more presence and atmosphere to the finished piece.
For the paintwork, the client requested a wet, dark, blood-soaked finish. Newly acquired special-effects paints helped recreate blood at different stages, taking Godzilla beyond a simple black-and-red color scheme. Layering multiple colors and textures brought out more of the sculpt’s fine detail while giving the creature a stronger sense of organic realism.
The redesigned tissue-themed tail support features illuminated lettering to emphasize its dimensional depth. Black pupils set against white eyeballs create the main focal point within the mass of tissue. Each section of decaying flesh received an appropriate base color before blood-effect paints were applied to unify the finish, allowing the various tissue textures to blend naturally into the overall display.
After completing the previous build, I realized that properly documenting a piece like this can be just as challenging as painting it. For this photo shoot, I asked a relative to help with moving fill lights, finally allowing me to capture the model’s details and atmosphere more completely. I hope everyone enjoys this commissioned build.
