Rockstar Games went to extraordinary lengths to make "Grand Theft Auto VI" feel like the real Florida. The development team conducted extensive field research across the state, visiting nightclubs and strip clubs and even touring different neighborhoods after dark with former police officers.

Rupert Humphries, Rockstar Games' senior vice president of narrative, told "Game Informer" that the team wanted to experience as many sides of South Florida as possible firsthand, traveling to Miami and surrounding areas to gather reference material.
"We try to experience everything firsthand—from nighttime rides with ex-cops to strip clubs, nightclubs, beaches, the Everglades, the Keys and beyond," he said.

This is not the first time Rockstar has drawn inspiration from Florida for a "Grand Theft Auto" setting, but 20 years have passed since 2006's "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories." Set in a modern-day version of the state, "GTA 6" introduces the fictional Leonida, requiring the team to recapture two decades of changes to the region's urban culture, nightlife and environment. The map is divided into six major regions: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Rockstar has already showcased activities including kayaking, street and off-road racing and airboat rides, along with nightclub and beach scenes. Previously leaked footage also appeared to feature a strip club and nudist settings, though those materials were never officially released by Rockstar. Whether the final game will present those elements in the same way remains unclear.
