Three months ago, Nexus Point News was first to report that Bradley Cooper was in talks to star in a new "G.I. Joe" reboot. Deadline has now confirmed that Cooper has officially signed on — and he will play the franchise’s leading hero, Duke.

Deadline also reported that the "Transformers"/"G.I. Joe" crossover teased at the end of "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" is officially dead. Paramount Skydance has abandoned plans to develop a team-up movie bringing the two franchises together.

The new "G.I. Joe" is set to be directed by comedian and actor Danny McBride, who co-wrote the screenplay with his "The Righteous Gemstones" collaborators Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri. The reboot will follow the Joes as they infiltrate a small town that has been taken over and turned into a Cobra stronghold. Reports also suggest the movie will be smaller in scale than the franchise’s three previous live-action installments.

Cooper previously starred opposite McBride in "Aloha" (pictured above) and made a guest appearance on McBride’s HBO series "The Righteous Gemstones." McBride is reportedly hoping to recruit more of his famous friends for the movie, though no additional cast members have been announced.
