BANDAI SPIRITS’ model kit brand BANDAI HOBBY unveiled the MGEX 1/100 Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM" in person for the first time at the 64th All Japan Model & Hobby Show. Previously revealed in full, the third MGEX Gunpla was developed around the theme of “radiant color expression.” Attendees can now see its array of gold frame finishes, plated clear parts, and the full visual impact of the deployed Proud Defender. The kit is priced at 26,400 yen, including tax, and is scheduled for release in March 2027.
When the first details were revealed, BANDAI HOBBY introduced the kit as MGEX’s next push toward the limits of “radiant color expression.” The following day, our full product breakdown took a closer look at its Mechanical Core Plating, gold frame, Proud Defender, and extensive weapons loadout. The 64th All Japan Model & Hobby Show marks the first time fans can see those effects on a physical model rather than through promotional images and CG renders.
The main attraction remains its “radiant color expression”. Mechanical Core Plating clear parts in three different colors are used for the red sections of the shoulder armor, the blue head sensors, and the pink glow across the Proud Defender’s wings. These are paired with multiple types of gold plating, EXTRA FINISH applications, and metallic-finish molded parts, creating distinct layers of reflected light across the Strike Freedom Gundam Type II and its backpack equipment. Seeing the finished kit in person also makes it clear that these specialized finishes deliver their intended effect without relying on promotional photography.
The rear-mounted Proud Defender is another major highlight of the display. The unit can be detached, while its wings unfold further to expose the gold internal frame. Once combined with the Strike Freedom Gundam Type II, it dramatically expands the mobile suit’s already massive silhouette. Pink clear parts also turn the glowing effect created when it disperses nanoparticles in the film into a permanent visual feature of the model.
