Entertainment insider Daniel Richtman has exclusively reported on his Patreon page that "Kaiju No. 8," the hit manga created by Naoya Matsumoto, is headed to Hollywood with a live-action feature adaptation produced and distributed by Sony Pictures. Richtman did not name a screenwriter, director or cast, suggesting the project remains in the earliest stages of development and those key positions have yet to be filled.

Sony has been aggressively developing live-action adaptations of Japanese manga in recent years. Its slate has included a "Made in Abyss" movie; a "GANTZ" movie from "Overlord" director Julius Avery; a "One-Punch Man" movie directed by "The Fast Saga" filmmaker Justin Lin; and a "Astro Boy" movie conceived by "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" director Jason Reitman. None of those projects has officially begun filming.
