BANDAI SPIRITS model kit brand BANDAI HOBBY officially unveiled "GUNDAM XMX," a new Gundam model kit line developed for the mainland Chinese market, at Wonder Festival 2026 Shanghai. The debut release stars the Strike Gundam from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" and will be sold in a Blind Box format featuring five standard variants and one secret variant. Designed around easy assembly and flexible articulation, the line is scheduled to launch in mainland China in spring 2027, with signage at the event listing a reference price of approximately RMB 59.9 per box. BANDAI HOBBY also revealed that an RX-78-2 Gundam release is currently in development as the second entry in the series.
We previously covered the initial reveal of "GUNDAM XMX", when BANDAI HOBBY released only a teaser PV promising "a new way to experience Gundam model kits" ahead of the full announcement at Wonder Festival 2026 Shanghai on October 3. Now we finally know how the line works. Rather than adding another established grade alongside HG and RG, GUNDAM XMX embraces a Blind Box model kit format, giving newcomers an accessible way to collect and build Gundams with different designs.
The first Strike Gundam assortment includes five standard variants and one secret variant. Although the official names of each version and the identity of the secret variant have yet to be revealed, the Wonder Festival display showcased several color schemes and equipment configurations. The line also emphasizes articulation and straightforward assembly, allowing collectors with little or no previous Gunpla experience to build a kit quickly and start posing it right away.
Alongside the Strike Gundam lineup, BANDAI HOBBY confirmed that a second release featuring the RX-78-2 Gundam is now in development. By launching GUNDAM XMX with the Strike Gundam from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" and the original RX-78-2 Gundam, the new mainland China-focused line is starting with two of the franchise’s most recognizable mobile suits. Whether the series will eventually expand to cover more Gundam titles will be one of its biggest points to watch.
