BANDAI SPIRITS’ TAMASHII NATIONS division has revealed two new releases for its METAL ROBOT SPIRITS line, which combines premium metallic finishes with die-cast internal frames. Based on the animated feature "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM," the BLACK KNIGHT SQUAD Cal-re.A and its separately sold EFFECT PARTS SET For BLACK KNIGHT SQUAD Cal-re.A are scheduled for release in April 2027. Both items will be sold exclusively through BANDAI’s official PREMIUM BANDAI online store.
The NOG-M2D1/E BLACK KNIGHT SQUAD Cal-re.A is the most advanced two-seat mobile suit in the Black Knight Squad series, independently developed by the Kingdom of Foundation using P.L.A.N.T. technology. It is jointly operated by Foundation Chancellor Orphee Lam Tao and his secretary, Ingrid Tradoll. Far more powerful than the other Black Knight Squad units, the Cal-re.A features beam-resistant Femto Technology Armor and eight wing-mounted Sahasrabhuja DRAGOON units derived from P.L.A.N.T. technology. Each wing carries eight beam cannons, giving the suit an arsenal of up to 64 cannons. It can also remotely control three massive Ziggurat DRAGOON units, each comparable in scale to a small warship.
The METAL ROBOT SPIRITS BLACK KNIGHT SQUAD Cal-re.A uses precision-sculpted parts to capture the mobile suit’s on-screen design while incorporating a die-cast frame and highly articulated joints. Its proportions match the official setting, making it noticeably larger than the METAL ROBOT SPIRITS Strike Freedom Gundam Type II. Matte and metallic paint applications give the armor a convincing sense of weight, while original markings across the body add the dense detailing of a real military machine. Exposed frame sections and the ornate gold armor lining the edges are recreated with plated parts for an especially luxurious finish.
Interchangeable parts allow the head’s mono-eye camera to be displayed at three different angles. The rear-mounted Sahasrabhuja DRAGOON wings can also be fully deployed using the dedicated semicircular backpack units. Opening the chest armor reveals the powerful OWC-Z199 Hyper Impulse Gun "Adro Onzi," complete with a finely detailed muzzle finished in plating and paint. The set also includes two OWC-QZ18 AMS Enhanced Swords and an OWC-M1R1/F High-Energy Beam Rifle, giving collectors plenty of options for dynamic combat poses.
Sold separately, the METAL ROBOT SPIRITS EFFECT PARTS SET For BLACK KNIGHT SQUAD Cal-re.A includes eight translucent Wings of Light effect parts with gradient paint applications. Together, they recreate the white-armored mobile suit unleashing fiery crimson wings after deploying its full complement of DRAGOON units, resulting in a wingspan of approximately 41 centimeters. The set also comes with a complete collection of beam effects and display supports for the Sahasrabhuja units. Molded in translucent red plastic with metallic particles, these parts work with the figure’s included display stand to create an imposing full-launch display.
