The long-running supernatural comedy franchise "Ghostbusters" has gone quiet on the live-action front since "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" hit theaters two years ago. In the meantime, Sony Pictures has continued expanding the franchise through animation, partnering with Netflix on the upcoming series "Ghostbusters: Night Shift" and an animated "Ghostbusters" movie directed by "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" filmmaker Kris Pearn. But there has been no word on another live-action installment.

That may finally be changing. Entertainment insider Daniel Richtman reported on Patreon that Sony is developing a new live-action "Ghostbusters" movie under the title "Ghostbusters: Nightmare on 34th Street," with "Sonic the Hedgehog" co-writer Josh Miller reportedly attached to pen the screenplay. Richtman did not reveal who might direct the project.
Richtman also did not clarify whether "Ghostbusters: Nightmare on 34th Street" would be a sequel to "Frozen Empire," a spinoff or another full reboot. He described it only as a "new live-action movie" in the franchise, leaving its connection to the previous films unclear.
