Plenty of celebrities dream of becoming authors, and once they make a name for themselves, their star power can help get a publishing deal off the ground—often with a co-writer. Keanu Reeves, for example, created the concept for the comic book series "BRZRKR", while Millie Bobby Brown enlisted a ghostwriter for her debut novel, "Nineteen Steps". Now action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger is joining their ranks.

Schwarzenegger has announced that he is teaming with bestselling American author James Patterson on a new novel titled "The Protector." The book is set to hit shelves on October 4, 2027, and is already available for preorder. Set in Los Angeles, the story centers on Father Viktor Brennan, a Catholic priest and military veteran assigned to take charge of a parish terrorized by criminals. He vows to protect the community—even if it costs him his life.

Schwarzenegger and Patterson said Viktor was partly inspired by a background the two authors share: Both were raised Catholic. Schwarzenegger also revealed that the idea had been with him for years: "This is a story I’ve had in my mind for decades, and I’ve finally found the person who can turn my idea into words."
