Ben Affleck may have left Batman behind years ago, but he still faces plenty of questions about his time as the Dark Knight. The actor appeared as Batman across five DC films: "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Suicide Squad," "Zack Snyder's Justice League," "The Flash" and "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," although his scenes were cut from the latter.

During a new wide-ranging interview with "Variety," Affleck was once again asked about his time in the DC Extended Universe. “I really loved making ‘Batman v Superman.’ It was a lot of fun. ‘Justice League’ ran into a lot of problems, so honestly, making that one wasn’t as enjoyable. I’m glad Zack Snyder got to realize his true vision, and I found that really gratifying. But there were also people who felt it was a little too dark or too scary, and that it lost some younger viewers. That seems to be a long-running issue, and I don’t know what the answer is. Do you make an R-rated movie like ‘Joker,’ or do you make something more broadly accessible like Marvel does—with ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ being the obvious exception? What’s interesting about the DC characters is the legacy of Frank Miller. There seems to be a larger tension: Are we making these stories for adults, or should they be more accessible to kids? Trying to serve two conflicting goals carries risks. That’s something DC is still navigating. But I have to say, Kevin Feige is a genius. I can’t think of another producer in the world who can simply say, ‘This is what audiences want,’ and actually be right.”
Affleck raised a similar concern last year, admitting that even his son thought "Zack Snyder's Justice League" was too dark and initially refused to watch it. In Affleck’s view, that remains an obstacle DC must overcome.
