Oscar-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón has not made a feature film in eight years, following his second Best Director win for "Roma." In the meantime, he ventured into television with the miniseries "Disclaimer" and began developing "Jane," a biopic about science-fiction master Philip K. Dick. The former drew a muted response, while updates on the latter have been scarce. Still, Cuarón has hardly been idle and continues to develop new projects.

During a recent master class at this year's Busan International Film Festival, Cuarón revealed that he is currently writing a new screenplay. "I'm writing a horror story, carefully and slowly," he said. "It's very interesting." Cuarón has never directed a full-fledged horror movie, but he has repeatedly expressed his fascination with the genre. At the 2024 Locarno Film Festival, the filmmaker said making a horror movie was a dream he hoped to fulfill someday and that an idea had already begun taking shape. For now, however, Cuarón is keeping the details of his mystery horror project under wraps.
