Good Smile Company’s Pacific Rim MODEROID Cherno Alpha Model Kit Packs an Electrifying Arm Punch

Good Smile Company’s MECHA SMILE brand is expanding its MODEROID plastic model lineup with a new release from the classic mecha movie "Pacific Rim": the MODEROID Cherno Alpha. Priced at 8,900 yen including tax, the kit is scheduled for release in June 2027.

T-90 Cherno Alpha is a first-generation Jaeger that held the longest service record among the active Jaegers in the original film. It was also the heaviest, tallest, and most heavily armored machine in service. Built in Russia, Cherno Alpha was engineered to withstand extreme cold and prolonged exposure to seawater, while its power came from internal combustion engines. Its primary weapons were massive telescoping fists capable of delivering powerful electric shocks. That brutally straightforward offense, combined with its heavyweight frame, turned Cherno Alpha into a mobile fortress on the battlefield. With its Conn-Pod housed in the chest, however, the Jaeger had no emergency escape system—a fittingly uncompromising design for one of the franchise’s toughest machines.

The MODEROID Cherno Alpha stands approximately 22 cm tall, faithfully capturing the Jaeger’s angular, industrial silhouette and extensive panel-line detailing. Articulated joints are built into all four limbs, while the abdominal mechanism can also open. In addition to interchangeable open hands, replacement parts let builders display its “arm punch” in either extended or retracted form. The translucent components come in both pre-painted and unpainted versions, and the included decals recreate the markings and color details seen across the Jaeger’s armor.
