Hong Kong-based toy company threezero has announced that its die-cast robot action figure line, "ROBO-DOU," is expanding with a new ROBOTECH subseries. Its first major reveal is none other than the iconic transforming space battleship SDF-1 Macross from "Macross."

The setting for much of the original series, the SDF-1 Macross is a colossal spacecraft measuring approximately 1.2 kilometers long. After recognizing the threat posed by extraterrestrial life and establishing the United Nations Government, humanity spent 10 years rebuilding the alien warship ASS-1, which had crash-landed on Earth in 1999. Outfitted with an enormous arsenal of cannons, missiles, defensive barriers, and other weaponry, the ship can also transform into the towering, humanoid-like Attack Mode. Inside is a compact but fully functioning city equipped with everything its residents need for daily life, allowing the vessel to carry tens of thousands of military personnel and civilians on extended voyages. However, during its 2009 launch ceremony, the Macross' main cannon system autonomously opened fire on a Zentradi fleet, igniting Space War I.

For now, the teaser silhouette for the ROBO-DOU SDF-1 Macross uses artwork from the anime's original design sheets, with no concrete product details revealed. Recreating the SDF-1 will be no small feat: the ship features an incredibly intricate hull, and its transformation into Attack Mode incorporates the Daedalus amphibious assault ship and Prometheus aircraft carrier as its arms. For comparison, the upcoming 1/2000-scale DX Chogokin release measures a massive 65 centimeters long. We cannot wait to see how the new ROBOTECH subseries approaches the SDF-1's iconic design and complex transformation system.
