Action icon Sylvester Stallone, who wrote and starred in the film that launched the "Rocky" franchise, has repeatedly discussed his desire to revisit the property with a prequel series. With the original "Rocky" celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and the making-of drama "I Play Rocky" set to arrive, Stallone once again opened up about his prequel plans in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

During the interview, Stallone offered his most detailed description yet of the potential series and its characters: "I think there's a great opportunity to do a prequel starting with Rocky at 16. You'd meet Rocky's father, his horrible mother and his half-brother. Because the studio made us cut it, a lot of people don't realize that Gazzo was his half-brother and that they grew up together. Then you'd see Adrian. Rocky has already known Adrian and Paulie for 10 years, while Mickey is already 31 and getting nowhere in life. It would be a great story because, for 16- and 17-year-olds, it could be a terrific portrait of their generation."

Stallone previously said the prequel never got off the ground because "Rocky" producer Irwin Winkler has long controlled the franchise rights. After their relationship deteriorated, Winkler reportedly rejected the project. Stallone did not say whether the two sides have since resolved their differences, but one thing remains clear: He still wants to make the series.
