Nine years after wrapping its sixth and final season in 2017, HBO’s "Girls" has delivered a surprise comeback announcement. HBO has officially ordered five new episodes, which will air as a limited series. Production is slated to begin in 2027, though a premiere date has yet to be set.
HBO also released a teaser, available below, featuring several of the show’s stars pretending to coordinate their schedules over a video call. Series creator and co-star Lena Dunham then pokes fun at whether "Girls" needs a new title now that the cast has long since aged out of being called girls.

Confirmed to return alongside Dunham are Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannells. HBO made no mention of other former cast members, including Adam Driver and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Their involvement remains unconfirmed and could still be under negotiation—or simply being kept under wraps.
