After years in development, the new live-action "Street Fighter" reboot finally hits the big screen this Friday. Western critics and journalists who caught advance screenings have now shared their first reactions on social media. The early verdict is largely what fans might expect: an over-the-top, comedic throwback that faithfully recreates the characters’ signature moves, even if some critics found the plot unfocused and the humor more miss than hit. The new live-action "Street Fighter" movie is directed by "Bad Trip" filmmaker Kitao Sakurai, with a screenplay by "Captain America: Brave New World" writer Dalan Musson.
The star-studded cast includes rapper 50 Cent as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, WWE star Roman Reigns as Akuma, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, wrestler Cody Rhodes as Guile, Jason Momoa as Blanka and Andrew Koji as Ryu. Eric André plays ring announcer Don Sauvage, while Ma Dong-seok voices Gouken. Set in 1993, the movie follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken as the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament. A deadly conspiracy lurks behind the competition, forcing the former friends to face each other and confront the demons of their past. If they cannot overcome them, it’s game over.
