Chandler Riggs, who played Carl Grimes on "The Walking Dead," has produced his own live-action fan short based on "Resident Evil 7 biohazard," recreating the memorable garage showdown between protagonist Ethan Winters and Jack Baker.
The roughly 20-minute film was released online October 14, 2026. Riggs also reached out to Zach Cregger, director of the recently released "Resident Evil," expressing his hope that they could work together in the future.

In an interview with IGN, Riggs explained that he made the short not for attention, but out of his love for the game. He said his team learned during preproduction that Cregger was also making a "Resident Evil" movie.
Riggs recalled realizing that they needed to release their project first. The team raced against the clock and initially hoped to debut the short about a month earlier, but the production did not go entirely according to plan.
Cregger’s film opened in September to positive reviews and set a new franchise box-office record. Still, its decision to tell an original story rather than directly recreate the games divided some players. Riggs said no adaptation could satisfy everyone.
He noted that making a "Resident Evil" movie featuring Leon, Jill and other established characters would be extremely difficult because of how iconic they are in the games. For that reason, he fully respected Cregger’s decision to take the franchise in his own direction and tell a new story.

Riggs faced a similar adaptation challenge. Ethan’s face remains largely hidden in the game, but the live-action short reveals him to better serve its cinematic storytelling. Riggs acknowledged that he considered shooting the entire project from a first-person perspective, but ultimately changed course so it could appeal to a broader audience beyond those who had played the game.
Discussing his future plans, Riggs said he hopes to make a feature-length adaptation of "Resident Evil 7 biohazard" someday and would also be eager to join Cregger’s film series. He explained that he loves being on set and collaborating with interesting people, adding that if other movies and television shows do not give him more opportunities to shoot, he will simply make projects himself.
Riggs added that he would fully support Cregger continuing to make films in the "Resident Evil" universe and made it clear that the director could call him anytime.
Cregger, however, previously indicated that the intense backlash from some fans had left him reluctant to tackle another franchise film, even though he has also said he has ideas for a sequel. Whether the two will ever collaborate remains uncertain. The fan short stars Riggs as Ethan and Jason Douglas as Jack.
