DCU's "Swamp Thing" Still in Development as James Gunn Eyes Live-Action "Batman Beyond" Movie

DC Studios' "Swamp Thing" has seen little movement since it was announced as part of the "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters" slate, sparking speculation that the project had been shelved. However, co-chair and co-CEO Peter Safran confirmed at the recent "Clayface" premiere that the movie remains in development and its screenplay is still being written.

Safran addressed the project's status at the premiere:

"Logan" filmmaker James Mangold was originally attached to direct the movie, which will explore the character's dark origins. Because "Clayface" was initially spearheaded by Mike Flanagan before another creative team took over, fans have worried that "Swamp Thing" could face a similar shake-up. Mangold still appears to be involved, although no release date has been announced.

Fellow co-chair and co-CEO James Gunn also discussed the possibility of adapting "Batman Beyond," sharing his enthusiasm for bringing the animated property to the big screen:

Before DC Studios was formed, a live-action "Batman Beyond" movie was in development, with Michael Keaton expected to return as Batman and reunite with Michelle Pfeiffer. The project was ultimately scrapped after "Batgirl" was canceled. For now, Gunn has only expressed interest in the concept, and a movie is not officially in development.
