BANDAI SPIRITS’ BANDAI HOBBY division has officially revealed the product page for Gundam ZERO, the latest addition to its HG (High Grade) line of 1/144-scale Gunpla. Based on the new anime series "Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO," the kit is scheduled for release in April 2027.
"Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO" is part of the next-generation RG PROJECT and shares its universe with the upcoming 2027 video game "GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT." The anime takes place roughly 100 years before the events of the game. Humanity enters an age of unprecedented prosperity after acquiring the Three Revelations—gravity control, FTL communication, and Cognitive Materialization—from a mysterious object that arrived from beyond the solar system. Civilization soon expands across the entire solar system. However, the object suddenly runs rampant, activating a self-replication system and spawning highly aggressive silicon-based lifeforms. Faced with this unknown ecosystem, humanity sees the arrival of the “Apocalypse.”
After three months of fighting, the battle reaches a stalemate in Earth’s orbit. Humanity is forced to abandon the planet and relocate to the Moon and space colonies, marking the beginning of A.A. (After Apocalypse) 1. By A.A. 45, life alongside the silicon-based Apocalypse has become the new normal. On the lunar surface, a boy named Ray Azumi (voiced by Takeo Otsuka) awakens. A war orphan who lost both parents in an Apocalypse attack, Ray becomes the pilot of the XARX-0 Gundam ZERO, a state-of-the-art experimental mobile suit developed to combat the threat.
The HG 1/144 Gundam ZERO incorporates BANDAI HOBBY’s latest model kit technology. While previous Gunpla runners could feature up to four molded colors, Gundam ZERO introduces a new six-color multi-injection molding process. White, gray, dark blue, red, light blue, and yellow parts are all produced on a single runner, reducing the electricity and plastic materials required during manufacturing.
Once assembled, the kit faithfully captures the anime design created by Eiichi Shimizu, complete with dense mechanical detailing. Its armament includes a beam rifle, beam sabers, shields mounted on both forearms, and a booster backpack. Along with flexible joints in the neck, torso, waist, and limbs, the model introduces an all-new “linked spine articulation system.” The segmented spine-like assembly along the back bends in tandem with the chest and waist joints, allowing Gundam ZERO to achieve natural yet powerful poses.
