"X-Men's" New Rogue Raves About "Jujutsu Kaisen," Says Anime Helped Her Learn Screenwriting

Inde Navarrette, the breakout star of "Obsession," recently revealed that she studied "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" to sharpen her screenwriting skills, examining how timelines and narrative structure can shape a story.

In an October 14, 2026 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Navarrette explained that her career did not immediately take off after she finished filming the movie. While waiting for its release and feeling uncertain about her future, she supported herself by streaming games on Twitch. She also began studying movies and anime to understand why her favorite stories resonated with her.

Navarrette said she started analyzing movies by asking herself why she enjoyed them. Since she loved anime, she wanted to understand why "Jujutsu Kaisen" felt so different from "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" and other series.

She pointed out that "Jujutsu Kaisen" plays with different timelines, while "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" follows a much more linear narrative. That contrast led her to examine what those storytelling choices meant and how they affected the way each story unfolded.

Navarrette said she took a particularly deep dive into what made "Jujutsu Kaisen" so compelling. Through the series, she learned how timelines and delayed narrative payoffs could be used—for example, a character's monologue at the beginning of an episode might not reveal its full significance until two episodes later or even the finale, when viewers discover that the character has already died. She then applied those observations to her own screenwriting, using them to study story structure and foreshadowing.

Navarrette is also an avid gamer. In July 2026, a fan gifted her a sealed 2009 copy of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." She has also expressed interest in expanding into voice acting, naming the "Resident Evil" franchise as a dream project and saying she hopes to test the waters with a smaller production first.

She is now preparing to play Rogue in Marvel Studios' "X-Men" reboot. Navarrette has emphasized that she is doing everything humanly possible to prepare because she loves the character and has studied her extensively.
