"GTA 6" Trailer 3 Breakdown: Jason's Army Past, His Intimate Bond With Lucia and the Biggest Crime Missions Explained

The third video game trailer released by Rockstar Games for "Grand Theft Auto VI" offers a clearer look at Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos' life of crime while packing its brief runtime with clues about the characters, missions and open world. Those details range from Jason's military background and elaborate crew-based heists to story scenes that may connect footage from multiple trailers.

▌Showers, Kisses and Intimate Moments — While Lucia Still Wears an Ankle Monitor

One of the trailer's clearest narrative threads is that Jason and Lucia are not only committing crimes together, but also struggling with the pressure of life on the run. Lucia asks, "Are we gonna be okay?" Jason replies, "We stuck together through everything. Just gotta get through it." Their exchange suggests the couple's relationship will be closely tied to the main crime story rather than treated as background material between missions.

The footage also shows the couple showering and kissing, with Lucia standing on her toes to wash Jason's hair. Compared with the franchise's traditionally violence-heavy, satirical marketing, these quieter scenes offer a more direct look at the couple's intimacy.

Notably, Lucia is still wearing an electronic ankle monitor, suggesting she may not be entirely free of legal restrictions even after reuniting with Jason.

Another shot places them on the balcony of an oceanfront apartment, a major upgrade from the modest home shown in earlier footage. The change may reflect how their living situation evolves as the story progresses.

Lucia's gold dress in the trailer's closing sequence previously appeared in Trailer 2. Based on the matching wardrobe and locations, the yacht, the NINE1NINE nightclub and the couple's rooftop leap into a swimming pool could all be part of the same large-scale mission, though the actual chronology remains unclear.

▌Major Heists, Aerial Assaults and a Full Criminal Crew

The trailer showcases several major criminal operations, most notably a pile of cash burning inside a bank vault. The location previously appeared in screenshots released in August, with Lucia again wearing a ponytail. This time, however, she is accompanied not by Jason but by an unidentified figure. Another sequence shows Lucia alongside several armed men disguised as construction workers, suggesting some robberies will require additional crew members. Whether they are fixed story characters or hired specialists similar to those in "Grand Theft Auto V" remains unknown.

The action gets even wilder in the air. Dressed in black tactical gear, Lucia hangs beside a cargo net and fires a rotary grenade launcher at pursuing police vehicles. Other shots show a helicopter carrying an enormous load, with the suspended cargo apparently smashing through the side of a skyscraper and sending glass flying everywhere.

The trailer also captures Lucia leaping from a vehicle onto a commercial airliner, potentially connecting to the Trailer 2 sequence in which she fights inside the cabin as the plane's landing gear deploys. Jason, meanwhile, is shown aiming a sniper rifle, with a helicopter reflected in his scope. Another shot has him walking away from a crashed chopper.

The editing alone does not confirm that those scenes depict the same event. Even so, the footage makes clear that the game will carry forward the sprawling action set pieces that defined "Grand Theft Auto V."

▌Jason's Military Past Could Be Crucial to the Story

Beyond the spectacle, Jason's past may provide the biggest clue to what drives him into crime. He admits, "I got in some trouble in the Army. Didn't leave on the best of terms. They don't give loans or anything to people like me." The dialogue reveals his financial struggles after leaving the service, adding more context to his decision to pursue a criminal life.

His U.S. Army T-shirt features the words "North Fort Law" and "Marauder." The former recalls a military base featured in the original "Grand Theft Auto," while the latter matches the skull-and-parachute tattoo on Jason's arm.

The Marauders may have been Jason's unit, potentially drawing inspiration from the historic Merrill's Marauders and the modern U.S. Army Rangers. Rockstar has not confirmed, however, that Jason was actually a Ranger. Given the geographical connection between Liberty City and Alderney, it is also possible that he met Lucia, a Liberty City native, while still serving in the military.

Elsewhere in the trailer, Jason wears night-vision goggles and carries a suppressed assault rifle as he wades through water with two other men. He is also shown wearing body armor aboard a helicopter, then checking his weapon after landing — all consistent with someone who has received formal training. It remains unclear whether the swamp sequence takes place during his military service or in the present day. A shot of Jason wearing brass knuckles also suggests that one of the franchise's classic weapons will return.

▌Gangsters, Cops and Accomplices Form a Tangled Criminal Network

Jason and Lucia's activities clearly involve far more than just the two of them. Veteran bank robber Raul Bautista appears at a construction site, eating what looks like Cluckin' Bell fried chicken while pinning down and threatening another man. A sign in the background identifies Schlott Construction, a company previously featured on vehicle liveries in "Grand Theft Auto Online" that may now become a physical location.

The Vice City Police Department will also play a major role. Officer Mendez makes a brief appearance, and the way the trailer frames him suggests he could be one of the game's primary antagonists — potentially echoing corrupt cop Frank Tenpenny from "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas."

A police cruiser marked Mariana County takes part in an off-road pursuit through the Leonida Keys. On the streets, a suspected gang member sports an "EW" tattoo, while a masked crowd dances around a gold AK-style rifle. That second scene could simply be part of a music video or promotional shoot, however, so it is too early to identify the group as a new gang.

The entertainment business is woven into this criminal network as well. Bae-Luxe and Roxy, the rap duo known as Real Dimez, return as artists signed to nightclub mogul Boobie Ike's Only Raw Records.

How they will cross paths with the protagonists remains unclear. Jason's friend Cal Hampton, meanwhile, returns in a more comedic moment as he kisses his pet snake, continuing the character's oddball portrayal from earlier footage.

▌Vehicles, Wildlife and a More Detailed State of Leonida

Outside the main story, the trailer continues to showcase everyday life across Leonida. Street racing returns, with police closing in from multiple directions on a neon-green sports car. The footage also offers a fleeting glimpse of a turquoise-and-pink Invetero Coquette.

On the waterfront, Jason and Cal appear to be cleaning up a new Shasa boat model. Rental boats and jet skis fill the surrounding marina, offering another look at Jason's post-Army job at Brian's boatyard.

Longtime fans may also spot a familiar Globe Oil tanker truck, bringing back the fictional company previously featured in "Grand Theft Auto IV" and "Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars." Wildlife sightings include an iguana crossing a road and a large reptile resembling a Komodo dragon in the swamp sequence.

A dog can also be seen beside Jason aboard a helicopter, though there is no clear indication that players will be able to own pets or command working dogs. Elsewhere, visible sweat on a man at the gym appears to support earlier reports about the game's character perspiration technology.

▌Cryptocurrency Satire and an All-New Soundtrack

Rockstar's trademark mockery of modern culture also appears in the background. A biplane flying over Vice City Beach carries DacityCoin branding, with one person clinging to the wing while releasing pink smoke. The fictional cryptocurrency may be a parody of Bitcoin and could even tie into a promotional scam, though there is not yet enough evidence to connect it to any particular mission.

The trailer's soundtrack, "Flower in a Hurricane," is a new track recorded for the game by French electronic duo Justice, featuring contributions from Tame Impala, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and SZA. Justice also composed the game's original score. Despite the song's title, the footage has yet to show an actual hurricane, leaving it unclear how extreme weather could affect the open world.

The trailer's biggest takeaway is not simply the scale of its explosions and vehicles, but Rockstar's attempt to connect its characters' histories, criminal organizations, personal relationships and everyday city life. The footage offers plenty of clues that can be cross-referenced across previous reveals, but its mission structure, interactive systems and story direction must still be separated into what Rockstar has officially confirmed and what viewers are inferring from the footage.
