Milly Alcock Deletes "Supergirl" Instagram Posts, Sparking Recasting Rumors — James Gunn Sets the Record Straight

Fans recently noticed that "Supergirl" star Milly Alcock had removed several posts tied to her character, Kara Zor-El, from her Instagram profile—including her 2024 casting announcement. Combined with the film’s lower-than-expected box-office performance, the move fueled online speculation that DC Studios had replaced her, raising questions about the DCU’s future plans.

▼ Alcock’s Reels still feature several "Supergirl" videos, and she continues to follow Gunn and the film’s official accountDC Studios co-CEO James Gunn personally shut down the recasting rumor on Threads on October 16, 2026.

Alcock previously cleaned up or archived posts related to "House of the Dragon" after appearing on the series. Some fans therefore believe her latest social media changes may simply mark the end of the movie’s promotional campaign—not her departure from the DCU.

Alcock made her debut as Supergirl in 2025’s "Superman" before returning for her standalone film in June 2026. She is also expected to appear in 2027’s "Man of Tomorrow." Gunn previously confirmed that Kara would return for the follow-up and share more scenes with David Corenswet’s Clark Kent.

Gunn also denied reports that director Matt Reeves had completely left "The Batman Part II," along with claims that "Man of Tomorrow" received negative reactions at an internal test screening because of its dark ending and the death of a hero. He said all three rumors were entirely false.

According to Gunn, fellow DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran would be the first person to watch a cut of "Man of Tomorrow." Gunn was preparing to show Safran his first director’s cut that day—a full month ahead of schedule.

Addressing the steady stream of unverified reports, Gunn wrote, "You guys just have to stop listening to BS, and I’m mostly done shooting down rumors as there are so many." He added that he is rarely on the platform.

"Man of Tomorrow" is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
