A fan-designed My Neighbor Totoro project has reached the 10,000-supporter milestone on LEGO Ideas. Created by FullMetalBricks, “My Neighbor Totoro 1988” uses 2,341 pieces to bring Totoro, Satsuki Kusakabe, Mei Kusakabe, and a lush forest setting together in one large display. Totoro even features swappable facial expressions. The project has now officially qualified for the third LEGO Ideas review of 2026, giving it a chance to become a future retail LEGO set.

My Neighbor Totoro has long been a favorite subject among LEGO builders. Creator Jayfa previously built an intricate model based on “Totoro and Catbus,” while FullMetalBricks’ latest project focuses on Totoro and his fellow forest spirits. Alongside the massive central Totoro, the build includes medium and small Totoros, plus LEGO minifigures of Satsuki and Mei, gathering the movie’s beloved characters in a single woodland scene.

The centerpiece recreates Totoro’s round body, gray fur, and white belly with stacked LEGO elements. His face also includes two swappable expressions, allowing collectors to change his look. The medium and small Totoros are brick-built as well, while the Satsuki and Mei minifigures complete a display that instantly recalls the sisters’ magical encounters with the forest spirits.

The environment combines a large tree trunk, pond, and assorted plant life. Characters can be displayed atop the trunk, while a small fishing scene sits beside the trans-blue pond below. Colorful flowers and foliage add texture throughout the build. Everything rests on a black display base with a movie title plaque on the front, turning the model into a miniature corner of the My Neighbor Totoro forest for your shelf or desk.

The project reached 10,000 supporters on October 15, 2026, becoming the 32nd submission to qualify for the third LEGO Ideas review of 2026. However, reaching 10,000 supporters does not guarantee an official release. The project must still pass LEGO’s review process before it can become a retail product, so fans will have to wait and see whether Studio Ghibli’s iconic forest spirit finally gets an official LEGO set.
