Shueisha’s Japanese manga magazine "V Jump" is celebrating the sixth anniversary of "Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: Hero Avan and the Demon King of Hellfire" with an exclusive reader mail-in figure set, the "Avan & Hadlar MASTERLISE -OUTSIDE- 6th ANNIVERSARY EDITION." Based on a commemorative illustration specially drawn by manga artist Yusaku Shibata, the two-figure set brings the young hero Avan and the Demon King Hadlar together in three dimensions. It also marks the first figure release based on "Hero Avan and the Demon King of Hellfire." Priced at 18,000 yen including tax, the set is scheduled to ship in mid-June 2027.
"Hero Avan and the Demon King of Hellfire" is a prequel manga to "Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai," written by Riku Sanjo and illustrated by Yusaku Shibata. Set before Dai begins his adventure, the story follows the young Avan’s journey to becoming a hero and chronicles his bitter rivalry with the Demon King Hadlar. To commemorate the manga’s sixth anniversary, the Avan and Hadlar artwork featured on the cover of the oversized December issue of "V Jump" has been transformed into a special figure set, finally giving collectors the chance to display these two longtime rivals side by side.
Created for the MASTERLISE -OUTSIDE- line, Avan features intricately sculpted armor, shoulder guards, a belt, and a front skirt panel, right down to the battle damage across his gear. His longsword also features a painted finish designed to capture the blade’s gleaming appearance. Hadlar receives the same level of attention, from the transition between his head covering and face to the finely detailed necklace, belt, bracelets, and rings. His chest has also been bulked up, with the folds in his outfit sculpted to accentuate his massive pecs, giving the Demon King more than enough presence to stand alongside Avan.
