Kotobukiya has announced the latest addition to its popular "Frame Arms Girl" model kit franchise: "CutieroidDoll Gourai." Preorders are scheduled to open in fall 2026, and a new promotional video offers an early look at the prototype.

Developed by Japanese robotics startup HatsuMuv, the "CutieroidDoll" line recreates anime, manga, and video game characters as 55cm smart robot dolls designed to share your everyday space. Their arms and bodies can perform a wide range of motions, while voice commands, touch sensors, and a dedicated app trigger matching movements and audio responses. For its first release, HatsuMuv partnered with Kotobukiya to bring Gourai, the flagship character of Frame Arms Girl, to life. It is one more step toward realizing the lifelike, autonomous Gourai seen in the anime!

"CutieroidDoll Gourai" closely follows the design of the original model kit. Detailed paint applications and printing recreate the facial features designed by Fumikane Shimada, while the body and armor have been reworked with new proportions and detailing for the 55cm format. The result is a more natural, doll-like physique paired with intricately sculpted armor and shaded gradient paintwork. Joints around the neck, limbs, and other areas retain the mechanical styling of the model kit, and five pairs of interchangeable hands are included to faithfully capture Gourai’s original design.

The torso, legs, and hands use freely adjustable manual joints. Meanwhile, the head, shoulders, upper arms, and elbows are powered by a total of 11 axes of ultra-compact smart servo motors. Voice commands, touch sensors in the head and chest, the dedicated app, and RFID-enabled accessories can trigger up to 47 different motions. A high-quality 4W speaker built into the head plays 200 newly recorded original voice lines from Gourai voice actress Narumi Kaho. When combined with the doll’s movements, these create 97 distinct performance sequences.

The doll charges through USB Type-C and supports USB PD fast charging, though most features are intended to be used while the unit is connected to power. Its internal battery is designed only for short sessions, such as outdoor photography. Available for both iOS and Android, the dedicated app connects to the doll via Bluetooth to send commands and install firmware updates.

Based on the promotional footage released so far, however, "CutieroidDoll Gourai" still moves somewhat stiffly, and the head does not currently support interchangeable expressions. Its software also lacks the highly anticipated Gourai Zero AI technology introduced through the 2019 "Factory Advance Zero" project, leaving plenty of room for future development.
